52 days and counting

So Sam and I signed up for this week-long bike tour in June . . . the PALM ride.  We thought we'd keep a journal of our preparations and the big adventure.

Our first step is getting the bikes and US in shape!  The bikes just needed some new tires and tubes and minor adjustments.  Turns out it's a good way to learn some basic bike maintenance.  We're still working on getting some saddlebags for Sam's bike to carry our daily "stuff" - that's another project we have planned.  More on that another day. . .

Pretty new tires on my old clunker
that's going to take me across Michigan!

Getting US ready for the ride is going to take a little more time.  We just need to ride, ride, and ride some more.  We are up to 20 miles that we plan to do this weekend.  The idea is to get 2 or 3 good rides in per week, with a LONG one on the weekend.  The average day's ride during the tour will be 40 - 50 miles, so we need to work up to a 50 mile ride at least a few times before we leave.

Mine is made from an Orange Crush cap.
The fun part is buying new gadgets.  Our new mirrors came in today - cool, huh?

Sam picked out an IBC cap for his!

We'll post more pictures and progress as we go.  Sam will post some and I'll post some.  We're hoping that we'll run across enough places with wifi and enough chances to charge our batteries so we can make daily updates on the ride.

We hope you like our blog!
